Product Description: McAfee® Active Virus Defense offers comprehensive anti-virus coverage for all tiers of the network—virus protection software at the desktop, Internet gateway, email server, and file server levels of the network—plus centralized policy management and reporting through McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator®. Using McAfee anti-virus technology, the combined tools in this comprehensive suite offer superior virus protection against today’s constantly evolving security threats.

Performance: Scanning performance data generated during five test runs: An on-access scanning of 34,173 files (3.23GB) took an average of 13 minutes and 7 seconds; The average number of files scanned per minute was 2,613 files; files per second were 43.6; The average files size was 94kb.

Interfaces: McAfee’s anti-virus technology has a local software interface that can be accessed from the local machine it is monitoring. Customers can also use the ePO management console. The interface between ePO and Anti-Spyware is through the use of a Common Management Interface (CMA) used by McAfee. The CMA communicates over a standard TCP/IP network connection to the ePO server.
