Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service Extinguishes Data Security Concerns
Connect Protect provides flexible port control enabling the IT department to control what devices are used to download and upload data from the Service’s servers, protecting the network from viruses and other malware and guarding against data shrinkage

July 5, 2010 - Becrypt, a leading provider of information assurance solutions, today announces a partnership with the Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to provide a range of security solutions to enable the Service to centrally protect and manage its data. The fire service, which covers over 25 fire stations across two Wiltshire authorities, are implementing Becrypt’s remote Becrypt’s Disk Project, Connect Protect and Enterprise Manager IT security solutions to enable compliance with the Government Code of Connection requirements for connecting to the Government Connect Secure Extranet (GCSX).

Becrypt DISK Protect, which is being deployed across the Service’s laptop and tablet PC estate, transparently encrypts the hard drive with no impact on performance and prevents unauthorised access by strong user authentication. Connect Protect provides flexible port control enabling the IT department to control what devices are used to download and upload data from the Service’s servers, protecting the network from viruses and other malware and guarding against data shrinkage. Becrypt’s Enterprise Manager will mean the IT team will be able to manage its PCs, laptops and port controls over the wireless network, which will also assist the fire service in meeting its obligations under the Data Protection Act.

When combined with Becrypt Enterprise Manager, DISK Protect can be deployed throughout an organisation with little or no disruption to business activities, and is designed to secure an organisation’s data, whether on desktop or laptop PCs. This is key for the Service as it has taken an active role within the community to increase awareness and educate the public, which has meant an increase in remote working with staff using devices such as PCs, laptops and PDAs in the field and the demand for corresponding data security measures.

“Data security has become a significant issue for us in Wiltshire where there will be a lot of potentially sensitive information being sent across the network”, said Les Louth, ICT Director, Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service. “Becrypt ticked a lot of boxes for us. The Service focuses on three main areas - protection, prevention and response. Becrypt’s data security solutions will give us the compliance that we need, and we are confident that our chosen solutions are absolutely fit for purpose both and in the future.”

“The implementation of our products for the Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service serves as indicator to the compliance regulations that Becrypt enables its customers to meet in terms of its data security,” said Bernard Parson, CEO, Becrypt. “Protecting against data leakage and the need to secure data are both issues that face organisations across the globe. The large number of IT devices in use compared to the disparate amount of remote workers has reiterated this problem.”
